Codex S ny HD recorder
For those of you who can’t make the show, here’s an overview of what Codex will be showing.
We are excited to introduce the new Codex Onboard S Recorder. Complete with the DNA that has become synonymous with Codex recorders and with a completely new design, the Codex Onboard S is designed to work with compact HD cameras like the Sony PMW-F3 and the Canon EOS C300. Data is recorded onto Codex’s new Capture Drives from the HD-SDI output of the camera.
The production-proven (over 100 movies) Codex Onboard M will be shown on the Codex booth with the ARRI Alexa Plus camera and the brand-new Canon EOS C500 4K camera.
We’ll also being showing the Codex Vault, providing not only a next generation workflow for the ARRI Alexa Camera (Codex Datapacks or SxS cards) but also a workflow for the Sony F65 camera. Come to our booth to see the Vault up close. In February, the attendees of the Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA) Tech Retreat judged the Vault to be one of the best demos at the Retreat. Codex will be presenting at the HPA Post Pit at NAB on Tuesday April 17th at 3PM. The Post Pit is located in the South Hall, lower level SL14805.
We’ll be in the Central Hall, booth number C9811 with new products and improvements to our existing products. We’ll have Codex products along with ARRI Alexa, Sony F65 and F3 and Canon EOS C300 and C500 cameras.

Codex will introduce the latest addition to its product range at NAB 2012 – the Codex Onboard S Recorder. With a completely new design, the Codex Onboard S is designed to work with compact HD cameras like the Sony PMW-F3 and the Canon EOS C300. Data is recorded onto Codex’s new Capture Drives from the HD-SDI output of the camera. The Capture Drives come in 240GB and 480GB sizes, in a rugged CNC casing.
It comes from the same team that designed the Codex Onboard M, (used on more than 100 movies last year), and shares a common user interface.
Codex has partnered with both Vocas and ARRI’s PCA group to design new mounts and hand-held supports for the cameras and Onboard S recorders.
The Capture Drives will be fully compatible with the Codex Transfer Station for Mac OS X and the Codex Vault S, allowing for the QC of material, creation of deliverables and archiving of the original camera data.
“The Onboard S gives customers the reliability and robustness they’ve become accustomed to from Codex products,” said Codex managing director Marc Dando. “It also provides them with the entire Codex workflow that has become the industry standard for data-centric production. The new form factor of the Onboard S is ideal for these smaller cameras and gives us the opportunity to serve a wider market with a broader range of products.”
